Why do you want to study the social and cultural history of modern Japan right now?
Due to my heritage in Taiwan, I decided to pick the Asia-Pacific for my regional specialization courses. Among the courses, I wanted to know more about Japan. As a Taiwanese, our culture seems to be greatly influenced by the Japanese culture due to both the vicinity and the history of colonization. Thus, I wanted to study the history of Japan right now to see if there are correlations and/or lasting effects on the culture.
